Bryce Harper's Wife, Kayla, Had the Sweetest Reaction to Surprise In-Game Gender Reveal

Philadelphia Phillies superstar Bryce Harper found our the gender of his fourth child while he was in the middle of a game against the San Francisco Giants. Fellow Phillie Trea Turner handed Harper a custom bat that's color aligned with the gender of the newest Harper.

Turner passed along a bright blue twig and the Harpers found out they were having a boy. Kayla Harper, Bryce's wife, was in the crowd and learned the gender of her new child as her husband walked to the plate. And on Monday, Kayla posted her reaction to the surprise on her Instagram account, along with some new details on how it all went down.

"We wanted to be surprised and find out together, so we recruited Trea for some help," Kayla wrote on her Instagram account. "The doctor texted him the news and he was given two bats—one pink, one blue. Right before Bryce’s first at-bat, Trea gave him the bat that matched the baby’s gender. We’re so excited to add another boy to the family to even us out."

The Harpers currently have one son, Krew, and two daughters, Brooklyn and Kamryn. Now, there’s another boy on the way. What a special way to find out—all thanks to a thoughtfully executed plan from a great teammate in Turner.

'I can't think of a better winger' – Jeremy Doku hailed as best in Europe after dazzling display in Man City's thumping win over Liverpool

Jeremy Doku’s sensational display in Manchester City’s dominant win over Liverpool has sparked huge praise, with former striker Paul Dickov claiming he “can’t think of a better winger in Europe right now”. The Belgian tormented Liverpool’s defence all afternoon, further cementing his status as one of Pep Guardiola’s most dangerous attacking weapons this season.

  • Doku dazzles in Man City's win over Liverpool

Manchester City’s 3-0 victory over Liverpool showcased one of Doku’s finest performances in a City shirt, as the winger repeatedly dismantled the visitors’ backline. His pace, directness and relentless dribbling caused constant problems, with Liverpool struggling to contain him even when doubling up defensively. Doku’s influence was a key factor in City controlling the game, stretching Liverpool’s shape, and creating repeated openings down the left flank.

His contribution was not limited to individual moments, as his intelligent positioning allowed City to dominate possession in wide areas. Whenever City broke forward, Doku was the first outlet, carrying the ball at speed and forcing Liverpool’s defenders to retreat continually, and scored a brilliant long-range goal.

Dickov claims Doku is the best winger in Europe right now

Former City striker Dickov was full of admiration for Doku, insisting that no winger in Europe matches his current level. He explained that Doku’s performance against Liverpool was just the latest chapter of a consistently exceptional season, telling Best Betting Bonuses: “I would say he's probably the best in Europe at the minute. Not just of his performance against Liverpool, which was top drawer, but I said before the game, that despite Erling Haaland’s goals, Doku has consistently been City’s best player and biggest threat.” His comments underline how dramatically Doku’s reputation has risen in a short period of time.

Dickov highlighted the winger’s technical evolution, pointing to the huge improvement in his all-round game. He recalled the criticism from last season, noting: “People were forgetting last season. They were questioning his end product a little bit. And maybe he was doing all these dribbles and was playing at a mile-a-minute. Maybe his crossing and finishing suffered, but he’s worked so hard at his game. He’s only 23 years old. He’s a young boy, and he’s just impossible to defend against when he gets you one on one."

He also praised the Belgian’s ability to thrive even under heavy pressure from two or more defenders. Dickov added: “Even yesterday when Liverpool were trying to double up on him and go two on one, he was still beating both defenders as if they weren't there. The problem he has now is that the standard that he played at yesterday, people are going to expect that every single week from him, which is going to be difficult to do. But at the minute, off the top of my head, I can't think of a better winger in Europe, never mind in the Premier League.”

Doku silencing critics after disappointing 2024/25 season

Doku’s 2025-26 season marks a clear turning point, transforming him from an exciting but inconsistent talent into one of the most complete wingers in England. His statistics demonstrate a tangible leap in quality, with the Belgian already recording three goals and four assists across all competitions by mid-November.

The evolution in his numbers is supported by a dramatic improvement in his chance-creation metrics. His Expected Assists (xA) per 90 minutes have surged to 0.43, placing him in the 98th percentile among Premier League wingers. While his goals and assists alone may not tell the full story, his 0.57 goal contributions per 90 reflect a winger who is not only creating higher-quality chances but doing so with consistency.

This progress represents a complete response to critics who argued he lacked an end product earlier in his City career. Previously seen as a “chaos creator,” Doku now marries his dribbling prowess with refined decision-making, making him a perfect fit for Guardiola’s structured attacking system. His ability to drag defenders out of shape has also enhanced City’s collective fluidity, helping unlock spaces for teammates.

  • Doku critical to Man City's chances this season

Doku’s challenge now is to sustain this level of performance as Manchester City push deeper into the season on multiple fronts. With expectations rising following his standout display against Liverpool, he will face increased defensive attention as opponents look to isolate and restrict him in future matches. Keeping his form consistent will be crucial if City are to maintain their pursuit of the Premier League title and progress further in the Champions League.

There will also be tactical questions for Guardiola to manage, particularly with the return to fitness of City’s other attacking options. Doku’s place in the starting XI looks secure for now, but competition for wide roles at City is notoriously intense, meaning continued high-level output will be essential.

Trent Alexander-Arnold leaves heartfelt tribute to Diogo Jota on return to Liverpool with Real Madrid

Trent Alexander-Arnold returned to Anfield with Real Madrid and paid a touching tribute to his late former team-mate Diogo Jota, laying flowers and leaving an emotional handwritten message at the Liverpool memorial. The heartfelt gesture came as the English defender revisited his old home ahead of Los Blancos' Champions League clash with the Reds on Tuesday night.

Alexander-Arnold pays tribute to Jota on Anfield return

Ahead of Real Madrid’s Champions League meeting with Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold made an emotional return to Anfield to honour his former teammate Jota. The English full-back, who joined Los Blancos in the summer, placed a floral wreath, a handwritten message, and a red PlayStation 4 controller, a nod to Jota’s love of gaming, at the memorial dedicated to the Portuguese forward and his brother Andre.

Alexander-Arnold’s handwritten message read: “My mate Diogo, you are so missed but still so loved. Yours and Andre's memory will always live on. I smile every time I think about you and will always remember the great times we shared. Miss you, mate, every day. Forever 20. YNWA. Love Trent and family.”

The 26-year-old was joined by Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso, Dean Huijsen, and club legend Emilio Butragueno, who all laid flowers in remembrance of the Anfield favourite. Their gesture was warmly received by Liverpool supporters across social media.

Jota's tragic death and the subsequent tributes

The tribute comes just months after the tragic death of Jota and his brother Andre, who were killed in a car accident in northern Spain on July 3. The crash occurred when their vehicle veered off the A-52 motorway near Cernadilla, ending the lives of two much-loved figures in Portuguese football. The loss sent shockwaves through the sport, particularly at Liverpool, where Jota had become an integral part of proceedings.

In the days following Jota’s passing, Alexander-Arnold had released an emotional message on social media, which read: "It's so difficult to find the right words when your head and heart are struggling to accept that someone you care so much about has gone. Diogo, your family was your world. They were everything. For Rute, his children, and his parents, all of our hearts are broken. And for Andre as well. Brothers and best friends.

"When it's less painful, I want to remember Diogo with a big smile. So many laughs and happy moments. He was such a great team-mate and a true friend. Forever number 20. Rest in peace, Diogo."

Liverpool responded to the tragedy by retiring Jota’s No.20 shirt, ensuring his contribution to the club’s modern era would never be forgotten. Nicknamed the “Silent Assassin”, Jota earned a reputation as one of the Premier League’s most efficient forwards, known for his composure, work rate, and knack for scoring decisive goals. During his five years at Anfield, he made over 140 appearances, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, two League Cups, and a Community Shield.

  • Alexander-Arnold's first return to Liverpool after Jota's death

Alexander-Arnold’s return to Liverpool carried an added emotional weight as he visited the stadium for the first time since his transfer to Real Madrid. The right-back departed Anfield in July in an £8.4 million move after more than a decade with his boyhood club.

The memorial stop took place less than 24 hours before Real Madrid’s Champions League group-stage match against Liverpool. Accompanied by Alonso, another figure who straddles the history of both clubs, Alexander-Arnold was visibly emotional as he stood before the shrine, pausing in silence before placing his tribute.

Alexander-Arnold back at Anfield for Champions League clash

Real Madrid will face Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday night in what promises to be a charged Champions League encounter, both emotionally and competitively. For Alexander-Arnold, the match was supposed to mark his return in front of the Kop after having left the Reds; however, the right-back is unlikely to start the game as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury that has seen him miss close to seven weeks so far. Nonetheless, Alexander-Arnold will at least have the chance to sit in the away dugout at Anfield for the first time in his career.

Raza, Curran and Ngarava out of Zimbabwe vs South Africa Tests

Zimbabwe will be without opening batter Ben Curran and new-ball bowler Richard Ngarava for their two Test series against South Africa which starts on June 28. Curran is recovering from a broken finger, sustained when he was hit on the hand by Kagiso Rabada during South Africa’s warm-up match for the WTC final against Zimbabwe at Arundel earlier this month while Ngarava has a lower back injury from the Test against England last month.Seamer Victor Nyauchi, who was part of the group that traveled to England has been left out for tactical reasons on what is expected to be spinner-friendly conditions in Bulawayo while Sikandar Raza is unavailable due to commitments at the MLC.Curran’s injury has opened the door for Prince Masvaure to make a comeback after last playing a Test against Ireland last year. There are also recalls for top-order batter Takudzwanashe Kaitano, who played against Ireland earlier this year, legspinner Vincent Masekesa, who took a five-for on debut in Bangladesh, and Trevor Gwandu, who was forced out of the England match with a groin injury. Kundai Matigimu, a 27-year-old quick who has just four first-class caps to his name, is in line for a debut. The rest of Zimbabwe’s squad includes the experience of captain Craig Ervine and middle-order batter Sean Williams. Seamer Blessing Muzarabani will lead the pace pack and there are several younger names. Allrounder Wessly Madhevere is just 24 years old with six Tests caps and could double that number this year and Brian Bennett, who, at 21, scored the fastest Test hundred by a Zimbabwean is also in the squad. This series marks the start of a bumper period of Test cricket at home for Zimbabwe. They have already played one match against Ireland in February and will host six more Tests in 2025, for a total of 11 matches, despite not being part of the WTC. The South Africa Test series will be followed by a T20I tri-series which will also feature New Zealand, after which Zimbabwe will play two Tests against New Zealand. Afghanistan are due to tour Zimbabwe later this year. Zimbabwe squad: Craig Ervine (Captain), Brian Bennett, Tanaka Chivanga, Trevor Gwandu, Takudzwanashe Kaitano, Wessly Madhevere, Clive Madande, Vincent Masekesa, Wellington Masakadza, Prince Masvaure, Kundai Matigimu, Blessing Muzarabani, Newman Nyamhuri, Tafadzwa Tsiga, Nicholas Welch, Sean Williams

Paul Scholes names "unprofessional" ex-teammate as "worst" Man Utd signing

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has named one of his former teammates as the “worst” signing in the club’s history, branding him “so unprofessional”.

Scholes names former teammate as "worst" Man Utd signing

It would be fair to say that very few of the signings Man United have made since Sir Alex Ferguson retired have worked out, with YouTuber Adam McKola particularly critical of one of Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s additions on The Overlap earlier this month.

McKola said: “I think Jadon Sancho is the worst signing Manchester United have ever made. There’s big competition for it. We spent £80m on Antony who is useless.

“For me Jadon Sancho is the biggest waste of space I’ve ever seen in a United shirt. I think he’s a disgrace and I can’t wait to see the back of him.”

Amorim upgrade: INEOS eyeing "best young coach in the world" for Man Utd

INEOS could be about to land a new manager to replace Ruben Amorim in the coming weeks.

Sancho has been widely reported to rake in £300k-a-week, yet he has never managed to deliver in a United shirt, being shipped out on loan to Chelsea last season, with the west Londoners agreeing to pay a £5m penalty fee to avoid having to sign the winger permanently.

You may expect Scholes to name one of the Red Devils’ current players as their worst signing ever, off the back of finishing 15th in the Premier League last season, but the club legend believes one of his former teammates is at the top of the list. The legendary midfielder said:

Bosnich undoubtedly one of Man Utd's worst signings

Bosnich was signed as a successor to the legendary Peter Schmeichel, but the goalkeeper was unable to make the step-up, making 23 Premier League appearances in the 1999-00 season before being snubbed by Ferguson.

Fabian Barthez was ultimately brought in to replace the Australian, who ended up moving to Chelsea, and the Frenchman fared a lot better, spending three full seasons at Old Trafford and winning two Premier League titles.

While Bosnich was undoubtedly a terrible signing for Man United, it may be a little harsh to suggest he is the worst-ever, considering the goalkeeper arrived on a free transfer from Aston Villa.

Sancho, on the other hand, is widely reported to have cost £73m, which is the fourth-highest fee Man United have ever shelled out on a player, making it even more criminal the 25-year-old mustered up just 12 goals and six assists in 83 matches.

Harry Kane reveals Ballon d'Or ambition & secret behind his record-breaking form for Bayern Munich as England captain eyes 'perfect season'

Harry Kane has aired his ambition to become a Ballon d’Or contender, having maintained stunning individual standards with Bayern Munich, while revealing the secrets behind his current form. One of the greatest goalscorers to have ever played the game has been red hot at the start of the 2025-26 campaign, suggesting that he could come into contention for a prestigious Golden Ball award.

  • Goal numbers: Kane's stunning start to the season

Kane finished outside of the top 10 in the 2024 Ballon d’Or vote, with the England captain slipping to 13th on that list despite breaking his trophy duck when landing the Bundesliga and plundering 41 goals for Bayern across all competitions. He is not fazed by that snub and has set about ensuring that he climbs those standings in 2026.

The 32-year-old frontman has become the first player in Bundesliga history to net 11 goals through the opening six matches of a league season. He has 18 efforts for Bayern in total, through 10 appearances, while also netting for England to take his record-shattering tally of efforts for the Three Lions to 74.

Kane has also become a centurion for Bayern, reaching 103 goals in just 106 games, and remains ahead of Manchester City striker Erling Haaland on the 2025-26 goal charts – with the Norwegian forward another of those to have been in scintillating form this season.

Ballon d'Or contender: Kane dreams of Golden Ball

Kane said of competing with the likes of Haaland for Golden Shoe recognition and potentially top billing in the Ballon d’Or: “I've seen that he's been scoring although [Kylian] Mbappe has also had a great start to this season. I think those kinds of comparisons come from the outside, more obviously from social media now. From me, not so much. I know there's some amazing strikers in Europe and I try to focus on myself.

“Obviously, I would love to win the Ballon d’Or. Essentially it is a team trophy that the best individual from that team wins so no matter how you do in a season unless you win the biggest competitions it is going to be a Champions League winner or a World Cup winner this time around.

“Especially when you are this early in the season it is impossible to talk about it. I would love to win it for sure, it would be an accumulation of doing something great individually and as a team. It would be almost the perfect season. The opportunity is there when you are playing at a club like Bayern – who are always one of the favourites to win the Champions League. With England we are going to be one of the favourites to win the World Cup.”

  • Limited ice cream: Secrets to Kane's success

Kane has learned down the years how to bring the best out of himself. He knows that sacrifices off the field will ultimately lead to better performances on it, with it important not to indulge when enjoying family time with wife Kate and their four children.

Explaining the secrets of his success, Kane said: “You have to drain as much as you can from your career. In terms of nutrition, recovery and working in the gym, I've stepped it up more this year. And obviously getting the rewards for that as well in the numbers that I'm producing.

“I do eat clean anyway. It's just whether I have the ‘cheat’ meals after games. Also not having as much ice cream when you’re out with the family. Just things like that. Small details, but I think at the highest level, a one per cent change, or even half a per cent, is going to make a big difference.

“As we know, the most important months are the latter stages of the season, the February to May and then obviously the World Cup. I want to make sure I'm in the best condition going into those moments."

Next up for Kane: England's upcoming fixtures

Gill lauds Impact Player Vyshak for stifling GT's chase: 'Not easy delivering those yorkers'

Gill highlighted Vyshak’s entry as one of two key phases where GT lost the match with the bat

ESPNcricinfo staff25-Mar-20251:36

Was subbing in Vyshak a masterstroke?

In a game that produced the sixth-highest run-aggregate in IPL history, Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill pointed to three Powerplay overs and three overs leading up to the finish as the ones that got away from his team as they fell 12 short in a chase of 244 against Punjab Kings in Ahmedabad.Fourteen overs in, GT needed seventy-five off 36 balls with eight wickets in hand. With Jos Buttler set and Sherfane Rutherford showing great hitting form, PBKS were under the pump when Vijaykumar Vyshak, brought in as Impact Sub, conceded just 10 runs across the 15th and 17th overs, either side of a tight 16th from Marco Jansen. At the end of that three-over passage, GT were left needing 57 off 18.Related

The Iyer Equation – Shreyas plays the numbers, and gets the answer right

Shreyas Iyer's IPL best leads PBKS to winning start

“I think those three overs in the middle, I think we scored around 18 runs. So, I think that, and I think our first three overs, we didn’t score that many runs [GT scored 17],” Gill said. “So I think those six overs where we scored around 30-40 runs cost us the game. Apart from that, many positives for us today, a good start to the tournament, I’d say.”GT would also look back on their last eight overs with the ball, where they conceded 135; Shreyas Iyer and Shashank Singh hit 81 of those in an unbroken sixth-wicket stand of 81 off just 28 balls. Iyer remained unbeaten on 97, and Shashank on a 16-ball 44. The final over off Mohammed Siraj cost 23.Vijaykumar Vyshak took the game away from Titans with his wide yorkers•IPL

“We got our chances when we were bowling as well and when we were batting as well,” Gill said. “Too many runs we conceded in the back end of the innings. But I think we also let ourselves down in our fielding. A few catches here and there and a few misfields. When you are chasing 240-250, it’s always going to be tough [if you drop catches].”Gill was magnanimous in his praise for Vyshak’s readiness as an Impact Player. Vyshak bowled three overs back-to-back from the 15th over onwards, with a clear plan to keep bowling wide yorkers and take the ball away from the batters’ hitting arc, a tough plan to execute given the dewy conditions. Vyshak’s three overs went for just 28.”It’s not easy, you know, coming in as an impact player and delivering those yorkers,” Gill said. “It’s never easy for someone who’s been on the bench for almost 15 overs. But I think credit to them, the way they bowled yorkers.”Arshdeep on Vyshak’s plans: ‘If you miss, miss on the wider side’Arshdeep Singh, who took 2 for 36 in four overs, threw light on the plan Vyshak came in with.”The thought was simple and very clear – make them hit to the off side,” Arshdeep said. “It won’t be easy to hit there. If they hit a good shot, clap, say well played, and execute another one. Really happy for him, he’s putting in the hard yards at practice, and was executing yorkers really well, and the results showed in the game as well.”The plan was if you are going to miss, miss on the wider side and not on the stumps. It does slip a bit with dew around but the plan was just bowl as wide as possible, even if it slips, it’s a full-toss, it won’t be easy for them to hit, because it’s very far from their reach.”Arshdeep also credited PBKS’s batters for setting the platform and being able to sustain the same tempo through their innings. “There is no par score – 240-250-260 – score as much as possible and then try and defend it.”
