Tony Dodemaide has announced that he will step down as the CEO of Cricket Victoria after the coming summer.Dodemaide, the former Test fast bowler who took 281 Sheffield Shield wickets for Victoria during the 1980s and 90s, will leave Cricket Victoria at the end of April 2018 after a decade as CEO.In a statement, Cricket Victoria said that the timing of Dodemaide’s departure would allow him to oversee the 2017-18 season and the completion of the new Victorian Cricket and Community Centre project at the Junction Oval.”Tony has been a wonderful servant for Victorian cricket, making an outstanding contribution as CEO on top of his decorated playing career for Footscray, Victoria and Australia,” Cricket Victoria chairman Russell Thomas said. “He has led the transformation of Cricket Victoria from a traditional state association to a multi-faceted organisation with high energy and enthusiasm.”As an administrator, he has overseen a decade of impressive on- and off-field achievements. These notably include the long-desired new home for Victorian cricket, arguably the most successful on-field period for the Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers in Victorian cricket history and strong Victorian representation in Australian teams.”Dodemaide said: “It has been a privilege and honour to be at the helm of Victorian cricket for over a decade. I am pleased to have contributed to both the successes and solving the many challenges that have arisen in the changing local and national cricket scenes during that time.””Of course there will always be new challenges on the horizon, but for me the completion of, and transition to the new home of Victorian cricket at the Junction Oval – a facility that will set up the sport in this state for the next 50 years – is an obvious and appropriate time to pass on the baton for a new phase of leadership.”However, Dodemaide has also faced the ire of some club delegates over plans to introduce a fully independent Cricket Victoria board, and a plan to restructure the state’s turf cricket associations has also drawn considerable opposition.

Everton: Club have tried to "sell themselves" to "absolutely top" person

Everton are still interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher this summer, but the Blues will are unwilling to sell, according to transfer expert Dean Jones.

How much does Conor Gallagher earn?

The £17,000-a-week Englishman has had a frustrating time of things at Stamford Bridge since returning there last summer, following an excellent spell on loan at Crystal Palace in 2021/22,

Last season, Gallagher only started 18 Premier League matches, and while he featured in a further 17 from the substitutes' bench, he found it tough to ever be a regular under Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Frank Lampard.

The 23-year-old is contracted to Chelsea until the summer of 2025, but he could possibly look for a new challenge before then, depending on how Mauricio Pochettino views him, in terms of his squad status. Everton have been linked with a move for him in the recent past, including in the January transfer window, and it appears as though they are not giving up hope yet.

Could Everton sign Conor Gallagher?

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Jones said that the Merseysiders are still pushing to sign Gallagher, but it won't be easy because of Chelsea's stubbornness on the matter:

"Conor Gallagher does not want to leave Chelsea so interest from Spurs, West Ham, Crystal Palace, Everton and Newcastle is all leading nowhere at this moment in time.

"This is a lad totally committed to establishing himself at the Bridge and while he will of course be open-minded further down the road if his path is totally backed, he’ll probably be in the starting line-up at the beginning of the season because there are no other options.

"Everton have been in touch over this one for the longest time and tried to sell themselves as a great platform for him to use to build his profile and standing in the game, and he would be pretty sure of game time week-after-week in their starting eleven.

"I don’t think Everton will totally let go of that hope until the window is closed but from Gallagher’s point of view, it’s not ideal. He would leave London for the right opportunity but is that it?"

While it seems clear that Chelsea are reluctant to sell Gallagher, considering he is a talented homegrown player, he could be a superb signing for Everton if the west Londoners' stance changes.

At 23, he still has so much of his career ahead of him, and he has already made 99 appearances in the Premier League, won seven caps for England and been hailed as "fantastic" by Potter, who also called him an "absolutely top" person.

Gallagher would provide that ability to score goals and register assists from midfield at Everton – something that has been sorely lacking for too long at Goodison Park – with his productivity in the final third highlighted by eight and three respectively in the league during his loan spell with Palace.

It is clearly going to be hard for the Blues to get their man, but these are the level of players they need to be attempting to sign, in order to avoid another relegation battle.

Sabbir 72, Mahmudullah 71* in Bangladesh's warm-up defeat

ScorecardMahmudullah found some form after a string of poor performances saw his exclusion from the second Test against Sri Lanka•AFP

Mahmudullah hit an unbeaten 71 off 68 balls and strode into some form in Bangladesh’s practice match against the Sri Lanka Board President’s XI, but his half-century could not see the visitors through as they lost by two runs, chasing 355. Also making fifties in the high-scoring encounter were Sabbir Rahman, Mosaddek Hossain, Mashrafe Mortaza, Kusal Perera, Sandun Weerakkody and Dhananjaya de Silva. In pursuit of the President’s XI’s 354 for 7, Bangladesh’s result was of little consequence: the visitors rifled through eight bowlers, and the match did not have List A status. However, a brisk half-century against bowlers who have all played for Sri Lanka may buoy Mahmudullah, who was chastened by his omission for the second Test in Colombo, hit four fours and a six. Bangladesh’s chances had seemed dim at 239 for 7 in the 39th over, until Mahmudullah put on a 101-run partnership with Mashrafe Mortaza, who hit a 35-ball 58. They couldn’t quite push the visitors to victory as Mahmudullah could manage just one run – needing four – off the final ball.Setting up the chase was Sabbir, who hit 11 fours and a six in his 72 from the No. 3 position, before Mosaddek contributed 53. Soumya Sarkar had also hit a 43-ball 47 to follow his good run in the Test series.Meanwhile, at the top of the President’s XI’s innings, Kusal had struck the latest in a series of uncharacteristically slow limited-over fifties. His 64 (retired out) came off 78 balls and featured only four fours. His two half-centuries for Sri Lanka A had also come at less than a run-a-ball. These three fifties came after a long slump for Kusal, during which he was dropped from the Sri Lanka side in all three formats.Nevertheless, his fifty and de Silva’s half century now creates a little competition at the top of the order, with captain Upul Tharanga, and wicketkeeper-batsman Niroshan Dickwella also having opened the batting for Sri Lanka over the last few months. Sandun Weerakkody, who had played in the South Africa series, but has not been chosen for the forthcoming one, also struck a fifty. There were no eminent bowling performances for the hosts, save for Akila Dananjaya’s 3 for 61.

Wolves Make Offer To Sign Former Southampton Star

Wolverhampton Wanderers have made an offer to bring Besiktas forward Nathan Redmond back to the Premier League, according to reports.

Is Nathan Redmond leaving Besiktas?

Redmond only arrived at the Vodafone Stadium last summer on a free transfer from Southampton, going on to make 28 appearances during his debut season. With his contract set to expire at the end of this month however, Julen Lopetegui has been alerted to his immediate availability, and it’s not the first time he’s been a target at Molineux.

The Athletic’s Jacob Tanswell reported in September 2022 that the Old Gold were keen to strike a deal for the 29-year-old in the final few hours of the window but missed out to Senol Gunes’ side, though with him having not yet signed a new deal, the opportunity to take a second bite at the cherry is absolutely there to be taken.

Are Wolves signing Redmond?

According to Turkish outlet Hurriyet (via Sport Witness), Wolves and Burnley have “made offers” for Redmond ahead of the 2023/24 campaign. The Midlands outfit are “working to sign” the right-sided winger, but it won’t be easy to prise him away from the Super Lig.

Besiktas “wish to keep” the attacker and have therefore tabled a €1.5m-per-year (£1.2m) salary to try and retain his services, but his agent, Simon Bayliff, has publicly stated that they need to increase it to €2m (£1.7m) to have any chance of holding onto his client beyond the summer.

Besiktas forward Nathan Redmond.

What could Redmond bring to Molineux?

First of all, Redmond being available for nothing would be an absolute bargain for Wolves, and his attacking threat has seen him hailed a “danger” in the final third by journalist Josh Bunting so he could add a prolific streak to Lopetegui’s squad.

The ARETE client, who’s sponsored by Adidas, posted ten goal contributions (five goals and the same number of assists) in 25 Super Lig outings last season and recorded a total of 47 shots, which was the third-highest out of all of his teammates, as per FBRef.

England’s former international would also provide the boss with wonderful versatility having been deployed in seven various positions since the start of his career, including all across the frontline and even three roles in the midfield, which is a great quality to possess.

Finally, Redmond is proven in the Premier League having made 264 appearances so would be able to easily slot back into the style of play should he return to the top-flight, which at this stage, could be a real possibility if the hierarchy pull out all the stops to make it happen.

Celtic Could Unlock Turnbull With’Elite’ £75k-p/w Signing

Celtic head coach Brendan Rodgers has been thrust straight into the job in the middle of a summer transfer window and will need to get his feet under his desk as quickly as possible.

The 2023/24 campaign is on the horizon and teams are already starting to bolster their squads with new signings to achieve their goals next term.

Ange Postecoglou departed the Scottish giants earlier this month to join Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur and the distraction of looking for a new boss may be the reason that the club are yet to make their first addition of the window.

The Daily Mail recently reported that the 50-year-old manager is now hoping to tempt Wilfred Ndidi to quit the King Power to link up with him again in Scotland, although it remains to be seen how viable a deal is for the Nigerian.

How would Wilfried Ndidi fit in at Celtic?

Postecoglou did not line up with an out-and-out defensive midfielder last term and Rodgers bringing the Leicester anchor to Parkhead could allow attacking midfielder David Turnbull to finally thrive.

No Celtic midfielder made more than 2.2 tackles and interceptions per Scottish Premiership game in the Australian chief's 4-3-3 system in 22/23 and the lack of a natural number six may have played a part in Turnbull's lack of minutes.

Celtic midfielder David Turnbull.

The 24-year-old only started six league matches for the Hoops but Rodgers' 4-2-3-1 formation could provide the Scotland international with an opportunity to strut his stuff if Ndidi comes in to provide the required defensive protection in one of the two deep-lying roles.

Leicester's midfield general was once described as an "elite player" by journalist John Bennett and the £75k-per-week gem's statistics back that up.

He ranks in the top 1% of players in his position in the Men's Big Five Leagues over the last 365 days for interceptions and clearances per 90, whilst he is also in the top 5% for tackles and top 11% for blocks, which included him making 5.31 tackles and interceptions per 90.

This suggests that Ndidi has been one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe over the past year when it comes to cutting out opposition attacks and putting his body on the line for the team.

His ball-winning ability could allow Turnbull to thrive in the number ten role without having to worry about tracking back and exerting all of his effort in transitions.

Prior to Postecoglou's arrival, the Scottish wizard averaged a Sofascore rating of 7.47 across 36 Premiership outings in 20/21 and contributed with nine goals and 12 'big chances' created.

No Celtic player achieved an average rating higher than 7.45 in 22/23 and Turnbull's 2.9 key passes per match in 20/21 is more impressive than the club-high 2.1 chances created per game that Matt O'Riley managed last term.

Therefore, signing Ndidi, who was once lauded as a "monster" by journalist Colin Udoh, could improve the team defensively and offensively, with his efforts off the ball allowing Turnbull to be unlocked as a creative threat in possession.

New Zealand snatch win in dramatic last session

Scorecard and ball-by-ball details1:45

Fernando: Sarfraz run-out was the pivotal moment

New Zealand took nine wickets in a dramatic final session, sealing a 2-0 series whitewash as Pakistan collapsed against the second new ball to slump to a 138-run defeat. When the final session began, the draw seemed the likeliest result by far, and a New Zealand win perhaps less likely than a Pakistan win. With a minimum of 34 overs left, Pakistan needed 211, with nine wickets in hand. Those nine wickets fell in the space of 24.3 overs, the last six to the second new ball in the space of 11 overs. On a pitch that offered little help to the bowlers apart from occasionally inconsistent bounce – which became less of a factor as the ball aged – New Zealand gave themselves a chance by playing the waiting game as Pakistan plotted a heist of their own. Pakistan had chased down two 300-plus targets in the last two years, both times against Sri Lanka – 302 in two sessions in Sharjah, and 377 in Pallekele. Here, chasing 369, Azhar Ali and Sami Aslam added 131 for the first wicket in 60 overs to set them a platform for a possibly Sharjah-esque finish. With the required rate creeping past six an over at the start of the final session, Kane Williamson’s tactics began to yield their desired results. His defensive fields had kept Pakistan in the game without letting them get too close, and now, they asked the batsmen to take risks.Babar Azam, going after a wide, flighted ball from Mitchell Santner, dragged the ball onto his stumps, replicating Azhar’s dismissal before tea. Aslam, failing to get elevation while looking to clear mid-off, fell ten short of a maiden Test hundred. Then Sarfraz Ahmed was run out, looking to steal a suicidal second run. Pakistan were suddenly four down, with the new ball three overs away.New Zealand took it as soon as it was available, and brought their field in, with the target now well beyond Pakistan: 169 in 21 overs. Tim Southee and Matt Henry had barely swung the first new ball. They began swinging the second one appreciably. Younis Khan, tentative right through the series and out chasing a wide ball in the first innings, chased again an edged Southee wide of gully. Then Henry struck in his first over with the new ball, angling it into Asad Shafiq and curling it away late. Looking to play the initial angle, Shafiq closed his bat face and popped a catch to point off the leading edge. Twenty balls later, Younis thrust his pad out at a Southee inswinger. Umpire S Ravi turned down the bowler’s appeal, but was forced to change his decision when New Zealand reviewed and ball-tracking showed the ball carrying on to hit the top of off stump. At the crease now were a debutant, Mohammad Rizwan, and a lower-order batsman known more for slogging than defending, Sohail Khan, with 16.3 overs remaining. They held out long enough to prompt a bowling change, Henry giving way to the gentler pace of Colin de Grandhomme, but Sohail drove without moving his feet and spooned a catch to cover.Eleven overs remained; Pakistan would only last 13 more balls, as Neil Wagner, coming on for Southee, blasted out the last three. He took out his fellow left-arm quicks, Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz, in the space of three balls, both nicking him to the keeper, before ending the game with the first ball of his next over, banging the ball in and forcing the No. 11 Imran Khan to fend to short leg.Rizwan, having fallen for a golden duck in his first Test innings, remained not out on 13 in his second. In hindsight, he may have wished he hadn’t taken a single off the first ball of Wagner’s spell and exposed Pakistan’s tail to his pace and bounce.Given the start their openers made, Pakistan would never have expected their tail to strap their pads on. By staying in the middle as long as they did, Azhar and Aslam seemed to have ticked off the first box in the team’s checklist: that of ensuring they wouldn’t lose.Sami Aslam fell ten runs short of a maiden Test hundred•Getty Images

With roughly four sessions of the Test match lost to rain, there was less wear and tear on the Seddon Park pitch than a typical fifth-day surface. There wasn’t much swing either, forcing Southee into bowling cross-seam within the first ten minutes of the day in an effort to rough up one side of the ball.Up-and-down bounce was the one major threat to Azhar and Aslam. Henry sneaked a shortish ball under Azhar’s bat in the 12th over of Pakistan’s innings, narrowly missing off stump, and then, in the 16th over, hit him on the glove with one that lifted from a good length. In the next over, Neil Wagner got a short ball to keep low as well, forcing Azhar to defend his stumps with a hurried jab with both feet off the ground.Wagner, typically, looked to test the openers with the short ball, using the angles adroitly and often, especially while bowling from left-arm around, delivering from as close to the return crease as humanly possible. Both batsmen handled him with a degree of ease, except for one instance when Aslam took his eye off the ball as it followed him from over the wicket and hit him on the side of the helmet. Both batsmen looked to play as straight as possible, with the threat of the shooter at the back of their minds, and this contributed to the glacial pace of run-scoring at the start of the day’s play. After 20 overs, Pakistan had only scored 21.Then, at the start of the 21st over, a bouncer from Wagner ran away for five wides and began a slight shift in the pattern of play. Azhar drove Henry for a four to the right of mid-off, and both batsmen sent square-cuts flying to the boundary in the next couple of overs. Aslam brought up the fifty stand in the 27th over, flicking Wagner to the backward square leg boundary, and soon afterwards sent a top-edged sweep off Mitchell Santner over the square-leg rope. The openers didn’t quite sustain the acceleration through the first half of the post-lunch session, scoring only 19 runs in the first 10 overs. As drinks approached, they began looking for sharp singles, and a more accurate throw from Henry Nicholls at short midwicket could have sent back Aslam in the 50th over. The drinks break provoked a distinct change in approach. Aslam pulled Wagner to the square-leg boundary, and then picked up two fours towards fine leg in one over from Henry, the first one a flick that went finer than intended, the second an inside-edged cover-drive.In all, Pakistan scored 51 in 13 overs after the drinks break, and were 158 for 1 at tea. Aslam was batting on 75, Azam on 16 off 23 balls, and their minds must have been busy calculating run rates and figuring out which boundaries to target after the break. Neither they nor their team-mates nor their opponents could have imagined what was to follow.

Big Glazer Family Update On Man United Takeover

Manchester United owners the Glazer family haven't yet 'shown their hand' in who they would prefer to take control of the club, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

What's the latest ownership news involving Manchester United?

As per The Independent, prospective bidders for Manchester United are hopeful that a preferred candidate to take control of the club will be known by this week as the Glazer family deliberate over their options.

Sky Sports report that Qatari businessman Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani submitted an improved fourth bid last week to try and buy the club worth close to £5 billion.

The outlet state that the offer falls short of the Glazer's £6 billion valuation; however, it includes proposals to wipe £1 billion of club debt and separate money has been put aside to improve infrastructure at the Premier League giants.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his petrochemicals firm INEOS are also in the running and The Sun detail that his bid would allow both Joel and Avram Glazer to stay on at the club as minority stakeholders potentially.

Speaking to Football FanCast, journalist Jacobs thinks that the Glazers need to make a clear stance of who they would prefer to see having control of Manchester United:

Jacobs told FFC: "The key thing in all of this is exactly the same really, as it has been since November and that is that the Glazers need to show their hand. At the moment, it doesn't appear that they're ready to do so, even though there is that back and forth behind the scenes. There is progress and the groups are certainly engaging."

What now for Manchester United?

Lining up a strong finish to 2022/23 followed by earmarking transfer targets for the summer will be on the mind of Erik Ten Hag, who will hope to see out the season with an FA Cup trophy to add to his Carabao Cup victory and confirmed top-four finish at Old Trafford.

In terms of potential arrivals in the off-season, Tottenham Hotspur talisman Harry Kane, Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount and West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice have all been shortlisted by the Red Devils, as per Sky Sports.

All three players linked represent an exciting level of ambition from Manchester United surrounding the level they want to reach under Ten Hag and the report states that the Dutchman thinks they are the 'type of characters' that he wants in the dressing room.

Manchester United are in a good place and will hope that their ownership situation can be resolved to equip the club with the tools moving forward to challenge for the Premier League title.

39 y/o Not Considered For Spurs Sporting Director Job

Journalist Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are not considering a move to hire Brentford's Lee Dykes as their new sporting director.

Who will Tottenham appoint as their next sporting director?

With Fabio Paratici leaving the club around the same time as Antonio Conte, Daniel Levy has a big job on his hands this summer as he makes not one but two vital appointments at Spurs.

And it had seemed as though the north London were potentially going to raid their Premier League rivals to bring in Dykes from the Bees.

Indeed, earlier on in May, journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that the "highly rated" executive was on Tottenham's list as a target.

However, while speaking about the latest on it all on YouTube channel, Gold suggested that Dykes was actually no longer being considered.

The journalist explained (0:56): "There was also, I know, a lot of talk about Lee Dykes at Brentford.

"From what I understand, he's not a candidate being considered.”

Who has Dykes signed for Brentford?

Dykes has done a great job working with Brentford, helping them establish themselves as tricky Premier League opposition – as Spurs found out this weekend in the 3-0 loss.

Indeed, as the club's head of scouting since 2019 – before becoming technical director last summer – he was presumably an important figure in landing Ivan Toney from Peterborough for just an initial £5m.

He was also around when the club paid the same price to sign David Raya from Blackburn Rovers, which will be of note to Spurs fans as they have been strongly linked with a move for the goalkeeper this summer.

Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.

With that being the case, it may well come as a bit of a blow to learn that Dykes isn't on the club's radar and Spurs won't be hiring the 39-year-old.

And so it remains unclear who the primary target is for this role, just as it's still not known who the Premier League club want to appoint as manager either.

On that front, a fresh update from The Times claims that Julian Nagelsmann is back on the radar again but this goes against conflicting reports which suggest the opposite.

All in all, it would take a brave individual to place any bets on a name for either vacant position but you can at least be pretty sure that it won't be Dykes to come in as sporting director.

Watson, Charles lift Zouks to third spot

ScorecardJohnson Charles added 151 in 13.4 overs with Shane Watson•Getty Images

An unbeaten 94 from Johnson Charles at a venue where a stand has been named in his honour helped St Lucia Zouks record their third successive win at home and surge to No. 3 in the CPL 2016 points table.Charles’ unbeaten second-wicket stand of 151 with Shane Watson helped Zouks chase down Guyana Amazon Warriors’ 159 for 5 with 23 balls to spare. Despite a deflating loss, Warriors, currently No. 2 with five wins in eight matches, were well placed to secure a berth in the top four.Jerome Taylor struck in the fourth over to dismiss Nic Maddinson after Darren Sammy, the Zouks captain, had chosen to field. But any semblance of control they may have had over proceedings soon disappeared as Dwayne Smith and Chris Lynn sent them on a leather hunt. The pair brought up a century stand for the second wicket before Sammy dismissed Smith. At that stage, Warriors were 113 for 2 in 15.3 overs, with Smith’s measured 51-ball 56 containing five fours and two sixes.Four of Lynn’s six sixes in his 45-ball 86 came following Smith’s dismissal. But quick strikes at the other end helped Zouks go into the break with momentum on their side. Watson was largely responsible for that, finishing with 2 for 27 in four overs.Sohail Tanvir gave Warriors a near-perfect start with the ball when he clean bowled Andre Fletcher in the third over. But it didn’t seem to have any effect on Watson as he crashed two boundaries off his first three deliveries to kickstart Zouks’ chase. At 33 for 1 in five overs, the match was on an even keel, before Zouks broke away courtesy an 19-run over from Orlando Peters, the medium pacer, with Charles hitting two sixes and a four.Comfortably placed at 91 for 1 at the halfway mark, Zouks needed just 37 more deliveries to complete the victory. Charles sealed the win with a boundary off Adam Zampa, the legspinner, as Zouks recorded their fourth win in seven matches.
