Ishant Sharma, the India fast bowler, has said that his ankle has healed and that he, in all probability, no longer needs surgery to fix it. Ishant, who played the first Test against the West Indies in Delhi, had sustained a ligament injury to his left ankle during the third Test against England at Edgbaston earlier this year. He was forced to miss the limited-overs part of the England tour and the subsequent one-day series against the same opponents in India, but recovered in time to play against West Indies.”There is no risk about it [ankle],” Ishant told reporters after India’s practice session on Sunday. I’ve been working a lot on my ankle and everything. I am fit now and I am ready to play in Australia, and I don’t think even after the Australia tour I will need surgery.”Zaheer Khan, India’s leading fast bowler, has been out of action since the first Test in England back in June. With offspinner Harbhajan Singh also missing, having been dropped for the first two Tests against West Indies, Ishant has been catapulted into the role of India’s senior strike-bower, a role he said he was happy to fill.”Obviously it’s a great feeling … It’s an honour to lead the Indian attack. Being the senior-most bowler in the team, it’s really great. It’s difficult to express this kind of feeling actually. You are obviously going to miss a bowler like Zak [Zaheer]. But injuries are part and parcel of the game. You have to play the role of the senior when someone is injured. Whoever you have in the team, you need to go ahead and give your best shot.”Given India’s recent spate of injuries, the selectors have taken the opportunity to blood a few new players during the recently completed one-day series against England and the first Test against West Indies. Among the new faces in the ODIs were Umesh Yadav and Varun Aaron, while Yadav played in the Test win over West Indies in Delhi. Both bowlers impressed with their pace and Ishant said it was a “great feeling” to be part of an attack that can bowl quick.”Earlier, everyone was saying that India can’t produce fast bowlers. Now all the three fast bowlers are consistently clocking 90 miles per hour. Obviously it’s a great feeling for any fast bowler in the team.”When he was asked why India’s bowlers failed to get reverse-swing at the Feroz Shah Kotla, Ishant it was difficult to do so on the first day when the track was fresh. “The only thing you can do is to be consistent and bowl in the right areas. As the day progresses, you get reverse-swing. Reverse-swing happens only on second or third day of a Test match.”The Australia tour is after this series. We will get two practice matches there to get accustomed to the conditions. In India, the wickets are like this only. We can’t complain about this.”

Chandimal has the composure for Tests

Even during his consecutive half-centuries for Ruhuna in the Champions League Twenty20, he has shown that he prefers playing orthodox shots better suited to the longer format

Dinesh Chandimal carries himself with the smile of a schoolboy. His batting does not have the regal touch of Kumar Sangakkara or the raw power of MS Dhoni. What he has displayed so far in his short career is the pluck of Romesh Kaluwitharana allied with the patience to build an innings, a skill that has brought him consecutive half-centuries in the Champions League Twenty20 qualifier. In both matches, he came in early at No. 3 following the fall of Sanath Jayasuriya – the past of Sri Lankan cricket – and provided a glimpse into its future. He batted like he keeps wicket, busily and intelligently. It took him seven balls to get off the mark today but not once did he betray any signs of desperation. And the way he scored his first runs was telling. Offspinner Jigar Naik had kept him quiet with a succession of quick deliveries fired in full. Off the last ball of the over, Chandimal coolly made some room and lofted Naik over extra cover for six.As he had done against Trinidad and Tobago, he played spin with assured hands and quick feet, lofting cleanly whenever the opportunity was there. In the subcontinent, where he will play most of his cricket, that usually proves to be a productive combination.Chandimal chose the right pace to target when he picked on Abdul Razzaq, pulling and flicking him for three of his six fours. The quicker Wayne White, however, troubled him as had T&T’s Ravi Rampaul, who had dismissed him when he top-edged a pull. There will be time for the 21-year old Chandimal to work on that aspect of his game.He has expressed his desire to take over from Prasanna Jayawardene for Sri Lanka in Test cricket. And that is why it was a touch pleasing to see that he struggled to time the cross-batted swipes at the death. It is clearly not something that comes naturally to him. He is much more comfortable batting the correct and orthodox way, even in the shortest format. He is safe behind the stumps and bustles with energy on the field. He cringes at dropped chances and has regular words of advice for his captain. A first-class average of 58.52 points at huge potential and it is inevitable that Chandimal will increasingly put more and more pressure on the much older Jayawardene for the Test keeper’s slot.Chandimal has been judged good enough to be played as a specialist batsman in ODIs with Sangakkara still having not given up keeping in the format. With Sri Lanka opting to ignore Thilan Samaraweera for the upcoming Tests against Pakistan, Chandimal’s Test cap might not be far away, whether with the larger gloves or without them.

Warriors gear up for encore

Warriors’ captain Johan Botha and coach Piet Botha are out to show that the performances of 2010 weren’t a fluke

Warriors were the surprise package of the 2010 Champions League Twenty20 in South Africa, overpowering more fancied teams as they stomped to the final. This year, their captain Johan Botha and coach Piet Botha are out to show that the performances of 2010 weren’t a fluke.”Teams know what we are about now, how we play, so it’s going to be tough,” Johan Botha said in Bangalore, a day after the squad arrived in India. “If we can reach the final again it would be a great achievement for the team. It is going to be a bit tougher over here in India, and we would like to prove to people that last year was not just about a home-ground advantage.”The initial target for Warriors is reaching the semi-finals, something which Johan Botha felt could be achieved if they began the tournament confidently like they did last year, when they comfortably chased down 150-plus in their opening game. “The key to such a short and intense tournament is to really start well,” Johan Botha said. “Friday night [September 23] is a really big game [against Royal Challengers Bangalore], you want to start with a win.”Piet Botha agreed, especially as Warriors’ first two opponents this year both made the semi-finals in 2010. “We are playing South Australia and Bangalore first up, it’s going to be massive for us to make sure we hit our straps straightaway,” he said. “It’s about getting through these first two games; we have prepared for them, we have some visual footage, we have watched a lot of RCB in the IPL. We expect a hard game.”Despite their exploits in the previous season, Warriors remain a low-profile unit. Their first media interaction in India was minutes after Royal Challengers Bangalore paraded some of the biggest crowd-pullers in the game, such as Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers. And the first question for Johan Botha and Piet Botha? “Are you two related?”One person who is not underestimating them is Bangalore’s South African coach Ray Jennings. “Warriors have the South African fighting spirit,” Jennings said. “The South African guys have had six months off, and they have worked hard for six to eight weeks. The challenge for me is to see if I can beat a South African side and to beat a good side like Warriors is going to be a challenge, and I am really looking forward to that.”Warriors had their first training session on September 19 evening, and have a practice match against a local side in Bangalore scheduled for September 20.

The Argus review recommendations

The Argus review recommendations accepted by Cricket Australia, and those put on hold

ESPNcricinfo staff19-Aug-2011As part of the Argus review into Australia’s team performance, the Cricket Australia board has announced a number of short-term and long-term steps as they aim to push the side back to No. 1 in the world rankings. The decisions include: The immediate creation of a new senior management position, the general manager team performance, who will be responsible for the team, coaching, selection, Centre of Excellence and will work with state cricket performance and talent managers. The general manager operations, Michael Brown, will continue to be responsible for scheduling, memorandum of understanding negotiations, security and anti-corruption, state and other competitions, umpires and coaches. The introduction of a five-man selection panel, including a full-time chairman, two part-time selectors monitoring state cricket, and the Australian team captain and coach. The national talent manager will not be a selector. The head selector will be responsible for performance management, including communication of selection policy and strategy, evaluation of and communication with individual players, including outside the national squad, co-ordination of player development plans, and succession planning. A new coaching structure will be introduced, with a head coach who is also a selector. The coach will have an expanded role with greater authority and accountability, and will work with the Centre of Excellence and state associations to direct Australian cricket’s overall coaching strategy.
The Argus review also recommended a number of other moves, which the board has not ratified but will consider in the near future. They include: Retaining a ten-round Sheffield Shield competition with multiple Shield rounds before the first Test each year. Reviewing the Futures League and recognising grade cricket as a vital part of the pathway, reviewing the composition and structure of under-age competitions and placing more focus on Australia A and using it as a genuine second XI. Reviewing Australian cricket’s first-class pitch strategy, with each pitch to offer a balance between bat and ball, and each pitch to be unique to local conditions, offering Test-equivalent conditions. Improving injury management Improving national coaching systems. Aligning cricket’s incentive systems, including the MOU, to give greater emphasis to linking reward with performance and to ensure player payment incentives for Test cricket reflect its position as cricket’s premium format. Reviewing the number of CA contracts. Carefully assessing Big Bash League private ownership implications to ensure private ownership does not incentivise BBL expansion in a way that could compromise Australia’s goal to be the No.1-ranked Test nation.

وأتم: “متشكرين يا حسين لبيب أنت وعصابيتك، هذا باتشيكو أصبح هدية لبيراميدز”.

Rain hits Derbyshire's hopes

Derbyshire’s hopes of tightening their grip on their County Championship match against Surrey at Derby were frustrated by rain

30-May-2011
ScorecardDerbyshire’s hopes of tightening their grip on their County Championship match against Surrey at Derby were frustrated by rain.No play was possible on the second day after steady rain throughout the morning and afternoon left the umpires with no choice but to send the players home midway through the afternoon. There was no prospect of any cricket following the downpours in Derby and with no sign of any improvement, Michael Gough and Trevor Jesty bowed to the inevitable at 3pm.At least the forecast is better for the third day when Derbyshire will resume in a healthy position on 375 for 7, with a good chance of taking maximum batting points for the second game running.
